Luna blinked. "Godmother?"
Clara feigned offense. "What? Am I not worthy of the title?" She had long planned to formally adopt Luna, strengthening their family ties.
Luna smiled faintly. "You’re absolutely right, Godmother."
Clara beamed. "Words aren’t enough! Soon, your godfather will host a proper celebration feast to make it official."
"Don’t rush, Godmother," Luna gestured to the still-unpacked room. "Let’s wait until my sister settles in first."
Only then did Clara notice Maya’s uneasy expression and the two hardworking boys in the yard. "Did you… come back just to help Luna pack for university?"
Maya flushed, stammering incoherently.
Seeing this, Luna cut in bluntly. "She divorced Darren Lewis. That bastard refused to pay for his own son’s critical treatment, claiming he couldn’t afford to raise three boys. Now she’s back with her sons." She clasped Clara’s hands. "Godmother, could you help transfer their household registration to our family?"
Clara’s eyes widened in understanding. She sighed, watching the diligent boys. "What a tragedy… Back then, your father had no choice. Old Mr. Lewis died saving him, and his whole family knelt at the village entrance demanding marriage… Who knew it would end like this?"
