Chapter 161
Ethan White had barely stepped off the bus when three burly men surrounded him. The glint of steel flashed as three sharp knives pressed against his vital points.
"Let her go if you know what's good for you!" The leader, a scar-faced man, growled menacingly. "Or you'll bleed."
The bus fell dead silent. Passengers shrank back, not daring to make a sound.
"Just leave me!" The girl whose wallet had been stolen stamped her foot in frustration, her eyes reddening. "There are too many of them..."
Luna White dragged her suitcase to a safe distance and waved at the girl. "Come over here. Stay out of the way."
The girl's eyes widened in disbelief. She had assumed Luna was Ethan's companion, but instead, she was just a cold bystander.
"I'm not leaving!" She stubbornly planted herself beside Ethan, though her voice trembled.
Luna raised an eyebrow. "Can you fight?"
"I... I can't." The girl bit her lip. "But I won't let good people suffer for helping me!"
The scar-faced man leered and reached out to touch her face. "Feisty little thing—"
Before he could finish, Ethan twisted his wrist with a swift motion. A sharp crack echoed as the man screamed and collapsed. A side kick sent another thug sprawling.
"Get back!" Ethan gently pushed the girl away.
The remaining two thugs lunged with their knives. The girl tried to rush forward to help, but Luna yanked her back.
"Are you insane?"
"I can't just watch him—"
"Save it!" Luna rolled her eyes. "My brother's a special forces soldier."
The girl froze. By then, Ethan had already dispatched the last two thugs with lightning-fast precision.
Cheers erupted through the bus. Several brave young men jumped out to assist.
Suddenly, one of the thugs bolted blindly into the road.
"Look out!"
A military jeep swerved sharply but collided with a bus behind it. The screech of twisting metal filled the air as three vehicles crumpled into a tangled wreck.
Thick smoke billowed upward.
"Rescue first!" Ethan sprinted toward the wreckage like an arrow.
Luna dropped her luggage and followed without hesitation. She knew the weight of those words—it was a soldier's instinct.
The scene was horrific. The jeep had been crushed, its windshield shattered like a spiderweb. The driver, his face covered in blood, weakly pointed to the back seat. "Save... the officer first..."
In the rear seat, a military officer had been impaled through the chest by a steel pipe, blood gushing from the wound. Another man lay unconscious, his arm twisted at an unnatural angle.
