Chapter 71

Richard Adams had just stepped over the threshold when he froze.

A sudden thought struck him—his father-in-law was stubborn. If he returned empty-handed, the old man would likely come to fetch this so-called "miracle doctor" himself. Better to bring the woman back now and let the general see for himself what kind of "doctor" this backwater village could produce.

"You call yourself a miracle doctor?" Richard sneered. "Then hurry up and come with me! A life is at stake, and you’re putting on airs?"

Luna White clenched her teeth, resisting the urge to slap him.

David Moore quickly grabbed her arm, pleading in a hushed voice, "Luna, please. It’s my fault. Just go take a look—for my sake. The boy is so young. If something really happens to him..." Both his sons worked at the factory. If this situation turned ugly, their livelihoods would be at risk.

Aunt Martha Cooper chimed in, her eyes red. "Luna, do it for me. Your uncle was foolish. We’ll never do this again." She shot David a sharp glare.

Iris White gently tugged her sister’s sleeve. "Luna, Aunt Martha and Uncle David have helped us a lot over the years..."

Luna sighed and turned to retrieve her acupuncture kit—a gift from her brother-in-law, Henry Cooper, just the day before.

"Fine," she said coldly. "Only because of Iris and Aunt Martha."

Aunt Martha nodded eagerly. "Luna, I won’t forget this."

Richard snorted and strode ahead without another word.

David hurried after him, leading Luna at a brisk pace toward Factory Manager Victor Green’s house.

The moment they stepped inside, every eye in the room locked onto them.

"Dad, I brought her," Richard muttered to General Charles Turner. "Looks like a fraud to me..."

Charles took one look at Luna, and his heart sank. This girl seemed younger than his own daughter—what could she possibly know?

Then, a heart-wrenching scream tore through the house. Fiona Turner burst out of the inner room, her face pale. "Doctor! Hurry! My brother—he’s dying!"

Five physicians rushed inside. Moments later, the lead doctor emerged, grim-faced. "General Turner... your son has, at most, thirty minutes left. We’ve done all we can."

Charles swayed, nearly collapsing.

Luna glanced past them into the room. The young man on the bed was deathly pale, his breathing barely perceptible.

"Let me try," she said calmly. "Right now, I’m his only chance."

Richard exploded. "Get out! How dare you play games at a time like this!"

Luna nodded and turned to leave.

Life and death were fated. Some things couldn’t be helped.
