Chapter 277
Caleb didn't feel like smoking or drinking anymore. He paced back and forth in his room.
He looked up.
It was already five minutes past seven.
Some more time passed. Caleb felt like it had been a long time. He looked up and saw that it was seven minutes past seven.
Only two minutes had passed.
Caleb had never been so anxious, even when negotiating a big contract.
He grabbed his hair.
He walked back and forth in the room, almost going crazy. It was already seven thirty, and Susan hadn't shown up yet.
Wasn't she the one who wanted him to come? What kind of attitude was this?
Caleb was angry. He picked up his phone, ready to make a call and scold her. However, he held himself back. Fine, she wanted to play games with him, huh? He wanted to see how long she could wait.
Caleb turned on the TV, trying to distract himself. He watched the news.
Fifteen minutes later, he threw the remote control against the wall, and it shattered into pieces.
Time passed painfully slowly.
It was ten o'clock, and Caleb couldn't take it anymore. He picked up his phone and made a call, squinting his cold eyes.
No one answered the phone.
She actually didn't pick up his call. She was done for.
Caleb dialed again, but still no answer. When he made the fifth call, the phone was hung up.
She hung up on his call.
She was really done for.
Caleb became furious that he jumped off the couch. He was going to kill her now.
Could something have happened to her?
The thought suddenly flashed through Caleb's mind, immediately shifting his mood from anger to worry. He immediately headed toward the door and made a phone call, "Find out where Susan is right now."
At eleven thirty, Susan returned home with a faint smell of alcohol.
Francis had also had a few drinks. He came out from the backseat and supported her. "Are you okay? Are you drunk?" His actions were gentlemanly, not taking advantage of her at all.
"Just two glasses of wine. I'm not guilty." Susan smiled lightly, her face flushed and charming. Her eyes were bright.
It had been a long time since she voluntarily drank alcohol. Usually, when she had to socialize, she would force herself to drink and end up throwing up. Tonight, she chatted and drank with some like-minded people. She was a bit tipsy. It was a different feeling for her. She had found an outlet for her heavy emotions. She felt much lighter.
Alcohol was a bad thing, but being tipsy was a good thing.
"Thank you, Francis."
"Here you go again. You've already said this to me more than ten times today. If you say it again, I won't be happy." Francis was tall and reached down to pat Susan's head. Her hair was soft and silky.
When he first touched her hair, he was moved. Since then, his feelings for her had deepened.
Even if he liked her only one-sidedly, he couldn't forget her.
Taking advantage of the alcohol, Francis boldly hugged her. "Susan, you must be happy." Even though she wasn't happy because of him.
"You too," Susan said sincerely.
Unbeknownst to them, someone had been watching their little interaction with a dark gaze.
Just as they separated, Caleb slowly approached from the darkness, his face horribly gloomy.
This scene was exactly the same as four years ago.
Was it a recurring nightmare?
Susan was startled awake. She nervously broke out in a cold sweat. As the cold wind blew, she shivered from the cold.
Francis turned around and also saw Caleb. He instinctively stood in front of Susan.
"Is this the reason why you stood me up?" Caleb's reaction was unlike four years ago, not as frantic.
He was extremely calm but more terrifying, like an impending storm. They appeared to be in the midst of a turbulent and frightening world.
"Susan, you're still a bitch."
Francis got angry. "Caleb, show some respect. I won't allow you to insult Susan like this!"
"You won't allow it? Who do you think you are?" Caleb didn't regard Francis highly. He pointed at Susan's pale face and said, "Did she sell herself to you? For a hundred thousand dollars?"
The word sell infuriated Francis. "You..."
"Yes, I sold myself to him for a hundred thousand dollars. I don't need your help anymore," Susan said loudly.
She didn't need him anymore.
All along, she had treated him as a tool for her own use. She only sought him out when she needed something. Once there was no longer a need, she kicked him to the curb.
"Susan, you truly are a bitch," Caleb insulted.
"Apologize to Susan." Francis rushed forward to hit Caleb, but before his fist could get close, Caleb's fist had already landed on Francis' face.
He used a lot of force.
Before Francis could react to what had happened, he was already knocked down by Caleb's punch.
"You're asking for death!" Caleb swung his fist, ready to hit him again.
"Caleb, stop!" Susan opened her arms, blocking Caleb from hitting Francis.
"Move out of the way. I won't hit a woman."
"Even if you kill me today, I won't let you!" Susan roared, not budging an inch.
"You're protecting this useless piece of trash?" Caleb was furious. "You'd rather have his child than mine. You'd rather cheat me and be with him. For a hundred thousand dollars, you sold yourself to him. In your eyes, he's better than me?"
The flames of jealousy burned fiercely in Caleb's chest. He felt as if his own heart had been ignited by envy.
"Yes, Francis is indeed better than you, a million times better. I look down on you. Are you awake now? Stop bothering me," Susan said mercilessly. Her attitude was firm.
She was ruthless.
Caleb realized he was nothing but trash to her.
"If you don't leave now, I'll call the police."
"Fine, I'm leaving. Susan, don't regret it." Caleb was completely disappointed, not wanting to see her even for a moment. He smirked, pointed at Susan's face, and then left.
He looked very angry.
"Francis, are you okay?" Susan helped Francis up. "I'm sorry, I didn't expect him to be here."
Francis wiped the blood from his mouth. "I'm fine, it's my fault for not protecting you and even asking you to protect me. I'm useless."
"Why did you get involved with him again? He knows Oliver is his..."
Susan shook her head. "He only knows I have a son, but he doesn't know Oliver is his child. Please keep it a secret for me."
"Okay. He's a violent maniac, an unreasonable lunatic. We can't let Oliver have a father like that. Susan, to prevent him from bothering you again, I'll arrange for you to stay somewhere else," Francis suggested.
"With Caleb's abilities, no matter where I hide, he'll be able to find me. It's useless. Francis, don't worry, I know how to deal with him. First, let me accompany you to the hospital."
"It's just a minor external injury. No big deal. You go upstairs. If there's anything, call me. I'm available anytime for you."
"Thank you."
Susan returned home, completely exhausted.
She cried in distress.
'Caleb, why do you torture me like this?
'Why?'
At three in the morning, Caleb returned home, reeking of alcohol. He rushed to the bathroom and vomited uncontrollably.
Grace was awakened by the sound of his vomiting. She walked to the bathroom and turned on the light.
Caleb was hunched over the toilet, convulsing and vomiting. The vomit emitted a pungent smell.
Grace frowned. "How much did you drink?
"Are you alright?"
Her hand touched his back.
"Don't touch me!"
Caleb slapped her hand away.
Grace was hurt by the hit, her hand burning. Unable to control her anger, she said, "Are you crazy? I was worried about you, and you snapped at me."
"Get lost!"
