Layla was so flustered by the question that her heart was in turmoil, and the only thing she could think of was to escape. "Let go of me, Samuel," she said, pulling her hand away. Samuel's shoulder was still injured, and he couldn't hold on tightly. His palm fell empty, and his lips turned pale.

After the nap, the servant prepared afternoon tea and set it up in the yard. Layla and Samuel basked in the sun, feeling peaceful. It had been a long time since they had felt this way. "Would you like an apple?"

Layla picked up an apple and skillfully peeled it. Samuel stared at her, murmuring, "You're so good at peeling apples."
