Mia sat by the bed, feeding Candy porridge, spoon by spoon.
Candy licked her lips. "Grandma, I'm full."
"You've barely eaten. Have a bit more."
Candy shook her head. "I really can't."

"Your mommy hit you. Why didn't you tell your daddy?"

Grace pushed Sammy away. "Do you really love me?" Her eyes showed contempt and mockery. She wasn't buying his sweet talk.

"What is it? I'll do anything for you!" Sammy vowed, but his face changed when he heard Grace's request. "You... that's too cruel. That woman is your husband's mistress. If I touch her, your husband will kill me!"

Susan gritted her teeth, enduring the pain, tasting blood in her mouth.
