Chapter 21
Adrian Sinclair took a long time to recover from the intense pain.
He adjusted his collar expressionlessly and leaned back into his seat.
His slender fingers pressed against his temples as he closed his eyes to rest.
A fine sense of guilt stirred within Anna Ross.
The memory of his pained expression lingered in her mind.
Had she been too harsh?
But he had been the one to act like a jerk first.
It wasn't entirely her fault.
Her phone suddenly vibrated.
Anna was startled.
It was a call from her mother.
She cleared her throat, trying to keep her voice steady.
"Mom."
Vivian Lowell sounded anxious.
"Anna, why aren't you home yet?"
Anna glanced at Adrian.
Her fingers tightened around the phone.
"I'm working overtime. I might be very late tonight."
In truth, when she could leave depended entirely on Adrian's mood.
But she had to lie.
The guilt of lying made her voice tremble.
Vivian sighed in relief.
"Even if work is busy, you need to take care of your health. Come home early."
A wave of sorrow washed over Anna.
She sniffled.
"I know. Please go to sleep and don't wait for me."
She wanted nothing more than to go home early.
After a few more words of advice, the call ended.
Anna stared at the night scenery rushing past the window.
A sense of powerlessness overwhelmed her.
She fought back tears.
Adrian's cold laugh broke the silence.
"Lies come so easily to you. Is that how you deceived your Sugar Daddy too?"
His gaze was disdainful, as if looking at something filthy.
Anna's face turned pale.
Her suppressed emotions finally broke through.
Tears streamed down her pale cheeks.
She wiped them away roughly.
Her voice was cold.
"Stop the car. I want to go home."
Adrian's eyes turned even colder.
"Keep driving!"
The driver broke into a cold sweat, not daring to disobey.
Anna completely broke down.
"I'm just an Executive Assistant! I didn't sell myself to you!"
The driver glanced back in shock, but a cold look from Adrian made him quickly turn away.
"I'll do whatever I want."
He gritted his teeth.
"If you don't want Howard Lowell to find out anything, behave yourself."
Anna was furious.
What else did he know how to do besides threaten her?
