Sophia Roscente immediately hid behind Adrian Sinclair.
She pushed his back.
"Mom, you should ask my cousin," she said, her voice growing smaller.
She was panicking.
She could only hope her cousin would put in a good word for her.
Cecilia Roscente's face darkened instantly.
She pulled Sophia out.
"Ask your cousin? How would he know?" she demanded sharply. "Did you sneak back by yourself?"
Sophia looked like a frightened deer.
She glanced at Adrian for help.
"Cousin, say something!"
Adrian crossed his arms and remained silent.
Anna Ross's heart raced.
She couldn't figure out what he was thinking.
If he didn't step in to help,
Sophia would definitely be in trouble today.
Sophia secretly regretted her decision.
She shouldn't have counted on her cousin.
He was completely unreliable in critical moments.
Cecilia's gaze was piercing.
It made Sophia's scalp tingle.
"Mom, I actually—"
"Aunt, I brought her back," Adrian suddenly spoke.
Sophia immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
She secretly gave him a grateful fist bump.

He actually lied for them.

Cecilia's expression softened at once.
She showed a gentle smile.
"So that's how it is," she said warmly. "Don't just stand there. Come sit down."
Her gaze swept over Anna.

Sophia obediently followed.
Anna felt his gaze on her.
She pressed her lips together and quickly walked away.
Adrian sat down unhurriedly.
She instinctively moved aside.
He shot her a displeased look.
She pretended not to see it.
"Adrian, why did you suddenly bring her back?" Cecilia asked softly.
She doted on this nephew of hers.
It was just that her daughter always worried her.
She had been unwilling to go abroad from the start.
She even sulked and refused to contact anyone while overseas.

"I went to see her abroad last time," he said calmly. "I sat in on one of her classes."
"The teaching quality at that school is average," he continued. "It's better to bring her back to study domestically."
"It's inconvenient for her to be alone abroad," he said, the corner of his mouth lifting slightly. "It's better to take care of her back here."
He spoke as if it were the most natural thing.
As if he truly had his cousin's best interests at heart.
