Adrian Sinclair grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.
He reached out and gently removed the fallen leaf from her hair before releasing her.
Anna Ross realized she had made a fool of herself again and silently lowered her head to fasten her seatbelt.
The engine started.
Anna looked out the window, her unease growing stronger.
Should she tell him about today’s events?
Although Adrian had risen to prominence over the past two years, Howard Lowell was a cunning old fox. He might not be easy to defeat.
But what about her mother?
Anna leaned back in her seat, unaware of how pale she looked.
Adrian noticed her unusual behavior and casually asked, “Is something wrong?”
She nodded at first, then shook her head and sat up straight.
She was still debating whether to speak. She couldn’t reveal anything yet.
Adrian chuckled softly. She really couldn’t hide her thoughts. “I’m guessing it’s about your stepfather?”
“How did you know?” Anna turned to him in surprise.
Could he read minds? How easily he saw through her.
He glanced at her, his expression suggesting her intelligence was concerning. “It’s good to have a brain.”

Anna was speechless but didn’t dwell on it. His sharp tongue was nothing new.
During their university days, Adrian was famously sarcastic. No one dared provoke him unless they wanted humiliation and trouble.
Seeing her dazed look, Adrian frowned slightly. She shouldn’t be this slow.
Despite his thoughts, he explained, “You were just near their hotel. You came from there, didn’t you?”
Anna nodded quickly, lamenting her own foolishness. She had been so preoccupied that she hadn’t noticed. Now he would mock her again.
Adrian was pleased with her compliance but couldn’t ignore the worry in her eyes.
“What? He got what he wanted by joining the headquarters. Is he still giving you trouble?”
He suddenly accelerated.
Anna didn’t have time to answer. She gripped the seatbelt tightly, feeling as if she might fly out of her seat.
“Slow down!” She shot him a resentful glare.
Adrian eased off the accelerator.
Too shaken to release her grip, Anna stared straight ahead.
He glanced at her sideways, his tone indifferent. “You haven’t answered me.”
Answer you? Who did he think he was scaring with that sudden acceleration?
Anna glared at him but held back her words. Under his gaze, she simply shook her head. “……This isn’t your concern.”
If he lost what was his, she would be to blame.
The thought made her heart ache, bringing tears to her eyes.
Adrian felt displeased that she still wouldn’t be honest. He stiffened and fell silent.
After a moment of hesitation, Anna spoke softly. “But you should be careful around him at the company from now on.”
Torn between her mother and the person she owed, this was all she could do.
Adrian’s lips curled into a cold smile. So it was about his “wonderful” uncle. It seemed company life was about to get more interesting.
