Anna Ross felt utterly drained.

Howard Lowell glanced at the person beside him.
There was only silence from the other end of the line.
His anger burned hotter.
"It seems I've been too lenient with you."
"You're becoming more disobedient by the day."

Anna couldn't suppress a shudder.
"Don't touch my mother."
"Tell me what you want."
Hearing her surrender, Howard's expression softened slightly.
But then he thought of his embarrassment position at the company.
The fire in his heart roared back to life.
"Tell Adrian Sinclair to give me a promotion."
"A higher position."
Anna was speechless.
"I'm not all-powerful."
"Getting you into headquarters was difficult enough."
"Why can't you ever be satisfied?"
She forgot human greed is endless.
A taste only makes one crave more.
Howard let out a cruel laugh.
"Have you forgotten what I said?"
"The Lowell Group should have been mine."
"I will take it all back."
Adrian Sinclair is just an outsider.
He has no right to what is rightfully mine.
The company bears the Lowell name.
Not Sinclair.
Listening to his voice, a chill ran down Anna's spine.
She had seen firsthand how he treated her mother.
If Adrian ever fell into his hands...

After a moment of silence, she responded quietly.
"I'll try to think of something."
"But I can't promise he'll agree."
Howard brought the phone closer to his lips.
He chuckled darkly.
"Don't worry."
"As long as you ask."
"He will definitely agree."
He'd already heard the boy argued with the old man for Anna's sake.
This daughter was now his most powerful weapon.
Once a person has a weakness, it's exposed for enemies to exploit.
Anna didn't want to talk anymore.
She gave a noncommittal reply and hung up.
Howard tossed the phone onto the bed triumphantly.
Vivian Lowell happened to come out with a basket of clean laundry.
He called out to stop her.
"Darling."
"Come here."
"I have something to tell you."
Vivian looked at his insincere smile.
She paused.
Finally, she set the clothes down and walked over.
"Look at this bustling city."
"Don't you want to stay here forever?"
Howard wrapped an arm around her waist.
Together, they looked down at the lively streets below.
Vivian wasn't used to this sudden intimacy.
But her heart stirred nonetheless.
When they first got together, he had spoiled her rotten.
Though no longer young, they acted like passionate lovers.
Yet even then, he only saw her as his mistress.
He never intended to marry her.
It was only after she faked a pregnancy that he happily announced their relationship.
He took it upon himself to marry her.
When the truth came out, he grew cold and distant.
Verbal abuse turned physical.
Seeing her distraction, Howard felt displeased.
But then he reconsidered.
Her daughter was still useful.
For now, he needed to keep her stable.
"Darling."
"I was wrong before."
"I was angry because you deceived me."
"But my feelings for you never changed."
He pulled her into an embrace.
He spoke with feigned affection.
Vivian's heart fluttered.
She looked up at him.
"What's gotten into you today?"
Howard just held her tighter.
His finger gently pressed against her lips.
"I just suddenly realized."
"I truly love you."
"Once I reclaim the Lowell Group."
"I'll give you the very best the world has to offer."
