Chloe Valentine was on the verge of tears.

She turned and poured a glass of water.
"I planned to take the day off, but you weren't in the office."
She placed the water in front of him and stood quietly nearby.
Adrian glanced at the glass.
He picked it up and took a sip.
"Tell me in advance next time. Don't be so impulsive."
He set the glass down and stood to leave.
His expression remained dark.
Anna stood frozen in place for a long time.
Her mind was in turmoil.
He had confronted Grandpa for her.
Would this affect his future?
He had finally stabilized his position.
He shouldn't face more turmoil because of her.

Anna lowered her head and walked out of the conference room.
Suddenly, a shadow fell over her.
Howard stood with his arms crossed, blocking her path.
"Anna, you continue to surprise me. Adrian actually listens to you."
Anna frowned.
"I took a risk to help you today. Don't you think you should repay me?" Howard lowered his voice, his eyes darting behind him.
"Thank you. I'll remember it," Anna said softly.
"Just remember it? There's an opportunity to repay me right now. Tell Adrian to transfer me to a position with access to core projects." He spread his arms, his smile cold, as if he wanted to take control of the entire company.
Anna stood frozen, speechless.
Around the corner, a pair of dark eyes watched everything.
Then they silently disappeared.
Anna returned to her workstation feeling dejected.
The office door happened to close at that moment.
She glanced at it curiously, then lowered her head and continued working.
Chloe stormed into the office and slammed the door shut.
She swept everything off the desk onto the floor.
"I was so close! I was so close to getting that bitch out of here!"
She stomped on the documents on the floor.
She pulled out her phone and made a call.
"Mom, you have to help me," she sobbed as soon as the call connected. "Someone is trying to steal my man!"
Lydia Valentine put down her mahjong tiles.
A sharp glint flashed in her eyes.
"Explain everything slowly. What happened?"
