Anna Ross followed Howard Lowell into the office.
Howard sighed heavily.
He picked up the teacup from his desk and gulped down several mouthfuls.
He remained silent the entire time.
Anna grew restless waiting.
“What did you want to see me about?” she finally asked.
“You have the nerve to ask?” Howard slammed the cup onto the desk.
He turned and glared at her, his finger nearly jabbing her face.
His furious expression startled her.
She couldn't understand what she had done to anger him.
Howard continued to rage.
“My people say Adrian Sinclair has been getting very close to Miss Valentine recently.”
“What exactly have you accomplished with the task I gave you?”
He had thought his plan was progressing smoothly.
This sudden development caught him completely off guard.
Anna lowered her gaze.

“This has nothing to do with me,” she said coldly, as if it were someone else's problem.
Howard trembled with anger.
He pointed at her and roared, “What kind of attitude is that?”
“Have you forgotten your mother is still in my hands?”
“Do you not care about her anymore?”

“I'm not his Executive Assistant anymore.”
“There's nothing I can do even if I wanted to.”
She didn't notice the faint trace of resentment in her own voice.
Howard flew into a rage.
He slammed his hand on the desk.

“You can't even handle such a simple thing.”

“Uncle, what did you say?”
Adrian Sinclair pushed the door open and walked in.
Howard's face instantly paled.
He realized he had forgotten to close the door earlier.

Seeing Adrian enter, Anna immediately fell silent.
She retreated to a corner, standing with her head bowed.

Cold sweat broke out on Howard's forehead.

She found an excuse to leave.
“I'll let you two talk.”
“I should get back to work.”
