"I will handle things with Father."
Her voice was soft, yet each word was clear.

Anna rubbed her temples.
Perhaps she was just too tired lately.

The hospital room fell into silence.

She had actually hoped her daughter could help her husband.
She had opposed her daughter's relationship with Adrian Sinclair because of that forbidden connection.

"Anna, what exactly is going on?"
She was referring to Adrian's engagement with Chloe Valentine.
It hadn't been like this before.
Anna smiled faintly.
"They were always going to get engaged."
She suddenly realized something.
She looked up at her mother.
"Mom, you weren't like this before."
Vivian was momentarily speechless.
Her eyes darted away.
"I was just asking casually."
"Nothing more."
Anna didn't press further.
She picked up the fruit knife and began peeling an apple.
The hospital door opened again.
Adrian walked in carrying food containers.
The aroma of the meal instantly filled the room.
"Time to eat."
"It's dinner time."
He efficiently set up the small table.
He arranged the food containers one by one.
Anna silently adjusted the hospital bed to a higher position.
"Thank you, dear."
Vivian's voice was weak.
Her face remained pale.
Adrian's lips curved slightly.
He handed another meal to Anna.

Then she accepted it.
The food was plentiful.
Even in containers, the fragrance was undeniable.
Vivian watched her daughter eat hungrily.

"You silly child."
"Did you even ask if your cousin has eaten?"
The word "cousin" almost made Anna choke.
What kind of cousins were they?
Memories of the past flooded her mind.

"Dear, why don't you join us?"
Adrian's gaze remained fixed on Anna.
He finally turned his head slightly.
"I've already eaten."
"Please, go ahead."
Anna served her mother some food.
She finished her meal quickly.
Then she stood up to fetch water.
Vivian sighed softly.
She continued eating in silence.
"You've seen what you came to see, Mr. Sinclair."
"Can you leave now?"
Anna handed the water glass to him.
