A shrewd glint flashed in Chloe Valentine's eyes.
Her fingers tightened, pulling Adrian Sinclair's arm closer.
"Grandpa and Adrian won't mind."
She leaned in closer, her smile bright as the morning sun.
Adrian remained expressionless.
He stood still, his gaze locked intensely on Anna Ross.
Anna bit her lower lip.

"No need."
She lowered her head, avoiding his stare. "I'm heading back to the office."

"What a pity." Chloe pouted. "I'll have to call her cousin from now on."
Her finger traced circles on his sleeve. "But she doesn't seem to like me."

"The engagement party is today." He lowered his voice. "The plan remains unchanged."
Anna's fingers trembled.
"I'll tell him you're seriously ill." Howard narrowed his eyes. "He'll definitely come see you."
"Do everything you can to keep him there."
"He must not attend that engagement party!"
Anna's nails dug into her palms.
"He might not come."
Her voice sounded weak.
Howard snorted. "I have my ways."
"Just focus on keeping him occupied."
Anna looked down.
The marble floor reflected her pale face.
Like a trapped animal.
Nowhere to run.
"Fine." She agreed hoarsely.
Howard grinned widely.
He slapped her shoulder heavily.
"Don't worry." He said insincerely. "I'll treat your mother better from now on."
"Our family will be reunited."
Anna forced a smile.
Reunited?
Just another form of exploitation.
She clenched her clothes.
She had to get her mother out.
