Anna Ross unlocked her phone screen in the afternoon.
Sunlight slanted through the car window, falling on her weary fingertips.
She was so exhausted that even her breath felt heavy.
The negotiation had been unusually difficult.
The other party refused to yield, their words sharp and unrelenting.
Four hours of back-and-forth had nearly drained her completely.
Fortunately, the contract was finally signed.
She replied to Mia Lawrence's message and looked out the car window.
Adrian Sinclair walked ahead, his posture straight but betraying a subtle weariness.
Today's negotiation had clearly been targeted at him.
Since their abrupt conversation last night, he had not spoken to her again.
His silence felt like an invisible wall between them.
Adrian opened the car door and slid into the driver's seat.
Anna quietly got into the back.
The car headed toward an upscale restaurant in the city, where Mark Anderson was already waiting at the private room entrance.
"You're finally here," Mark greeted with a smile, his eyes shifting between them. "Leaving tonight? I'll miss you both."
Anna glanced at the dining table.
Elegant porcelain plates were filled with exquisite dishes. Candlelight flickered, creating a solemn atmosphere.
The client's high regard for Adrian was evident.
Adrian took his seat without a word.
Mark noticed Anna and pulled out a chair for her. "Please sit, beautiful lady."
Anna thanked him softly.
Only three of them remained in the private room. The air was so quiet that the gentle clink of silverware against plates could be heard.
"Mr. Sinclair, have you considered that matter?" Mark got straight to the point.
Adrian cut his steak slowly, fatigue evident in his eyes.
Anna lowered her gaze.
He had barely slept last night and had negotiated while sick today.
After the cold medicine wore off, his condition had clearly worsened.
"I'll approve the documents," Adrian said, his voice calm and steady.
Mark immediately stood up, raising his glass with a laugh. "Excellent! You're truly my savior!"
He downed his drink, excitement flushing his cheeks.
Anna blinked in confusion and continued eating quietly.
She didn't notice Adrian's gaze drifting toward her several times.
His mind was in turmoil.
The impulsive words from last night still echoed in his ears.
Was it the medication, or was it his true desire?
He couldn't tell.
When Anna reached for a napkin, she accidentally met his eyes.
Both froze for a moment before quickly looking away.
Mark keenly caught this scene and broke the silence with a smile, saying, "Beautiful lady, would you like to visit the iconic attractions here? I can be your guide."
Anna shook her head.
All she wanted was to return to the hotel and sink into a soft pillow.
"Next time," she declined softly, maintaining a polite smile.
