Noah Watson stood by her workstation with a professional smile.
"Mr. Sinclair wants you in his office now."
Anna Ross paused, her fingers stilling.
She really didn't want to go.
She couldn't guess what he intended to do this time.
Noah noticed her hesitation and softened his tone.
"Please, Anna."
"If you don't go, he'll take it out on me again."
He recalled his boss's cold expression and shivered.
Anna clenched her fist.
Noah had always been decent to her.
She couldn't bring herself to refuse.
"Alright. I'm going."
Noah sighed in relief and hurried away.
Anna stared at her lunch tray, her appetite gone.
He could have called.
He sent someone instead.
Clearly, he wanted to deny her any chance to refuse.
She set down her fork and knife and headed for the executive elevator.
The office door was slightly ajar.
She knocked.
"Come in."
His voice was lazy.
She pushed the door open.
He was lounging in his executive chair.
The glow from his phone screen reflected in his eyes.
He looked completely at ease.
"What did you need?"
She remained by the door, her tone cold.
"I have a lot of work to finish."
Adrian Sinclair set his phone down and rose slowly.
He walked toward her, step by step.
"Starting today, you're reinstated as my Executive Assistant."
Anna's breath caught.
"You were the one who dismissed me. Now you want me back?"
"Do you enjoy being so capricious?"
His eyes darkened as he leaned back against the desk.
"What I say goes here."
"You will obey."
Anna bit her lower lip.
He always knew how to pressure her.
Adrian chuckled softly.
"From now on, you come when I call."
"Every time you're late, it's a pay deduction."
She wanted to curse.
"Why are you doing this to me?"
"Who says I'm doing anything?"
He suddenly wrapped an arm around her waist.
He pulled her sharply against his chest.
Anna struggled to push him away.
He only held her tighter.
Adrian bent close to her ear.
"Is this what you hate?"
"Or... do you hate this more?"
"You're despicable!"
She trembled with anger.
He didn't move, his fingers brushing through her hair.
"Calling you my Assistant is despicable?"
"Will you accept it or not?"
