Chapter 5

Michael really didn't know.

He had been married to Isabella for three years, and when he thought about it carefully, he seemed to know nothing about her!

Michael's mother, Stella, had a stern face. "She went out to find you last night and hasn't come back yet. Who acts like her? Married for so many years, she hasn't gotten pregnant, and now she's throwing a tantrum and not coming home! And you, you didn't even come back for your grandfather's birthday yesterday. You can't act like this out of spite. If it were something serious, it would be one thing, but it was just to celebrate Bianca's birthday. How could your grandfather not be angry? Alright, go apologize. If you really like that Bianca, wait until you divorce Isabella, then you can marry her."

Hearing Stella's words, he recalled Isabella's temper when she mentioned divorce last night.

Michael's expression turned cold. "Mom, did you mention divorce to her?"

"Of course!" Stella didn't think there was anything wrong. "She's been married for three years and hasn't had a child. What's the point of keeping her? Anyway, I don't care. I already told her last night. I'll give her two more months. If she still can't get pregnant, she can get out!"

Michael gave her a deep look. "Mom, this is between her and me. Don't interfere anymore."

With that, he walked into the house with a cold face.

Stella was stunned for a moment, then chased after him. "Michael, what do you mean by that? You..."

Before she could finish, she met Aiden's cold, stern eyes and swallowed the rest of her words.

Aiden warned Stella and then turned his gaze to Michael. "Come with me."

Michael took off his suit jacket, handed it to a nearby servant, and followed Aiden upstairs.

As soon as they entered the study, Aiden heavily leaned on his cane. "Kneel down!"

Michael stood still. "Grandpa, I'm not a boy anymore!"

Aiden held a prestigious position in the Brown Family, and no one dared to defy him.

When he disciplined the younger generation, he never held back. Michael and his brothers had all been punished by kneeling before.

Aiden couldn't help but hit him with his cane again. "You know you're an adult, yet look at the foolish things you did yesterday. Is that something a mature man would do? Isabella is your wife. You didn't even get her a bouquet for her birthday, but you bought fireworks for Bianca's birthday. Isn't that humiliating Isabella? No wonder she wants a divorce! I don't care; I only want Isabella. If you drive her away, don't come back to the Brown Family. I don't have a useless grandson like you!"

Aiden continued, "I understand Isabella. She might be asking for a divorce out of impulse. But if you don't hurry and win her back, she might really leave, and then you'll regret it!"

Michael stood straight, seemingly unfazed by the pain in his leg.

His eyes held a hint of coldness. "If Isabella leaves, she leaves. Do you think I can't find another wife?"

"I'm afraid you won't find a wife as good as Isabella!" Aiden added, "No, you definitely won't find one as good as Isabella!"

Michael didn't speak, his eyes lowered, his expression cold to the point of indifference.

Seeing him like this gave Aiden a headache. "I just don't understand. When Isabella came with the engagement token, you agreed to marry her. Didn't you like her and protect her when you were young? When she was sent to the countryside, you always wanted to find her. How come things became different now?"

Michael let out a cold laugh. "People change."

Aiden was infuriated by his words, his cane thumping loudly. "Regardless, you're married to Isabella and should be responsible for her. If you continue like this, I'll have to revoke your status as the heir! The Brown Family's company will never be handed over to someone untrustworthy!"

Hearing this, Michael's face darkened.

He looked up, his expression calm as he stared at Aiden. After a long while, he sneered. "You can announce right now that my second brother, Nolan Brown, will be the heir. Let's see if he can handle it!"

With that, he turned and walked away without looking back.

Behind him, Aiden was furious, throwing his cane at him.

It hit the closed door with a bang, making Aiden's eyes roll in anger.

He firmly believed that Michael would regret it in the future!

After leaving the study, Michael received a call from his marital home. "Mr. Brown, we just received a document. It looks like a court summons."

"A summons?" Michael squinted. "Where did the summons come from?"

The servant's voice sounded nervous. "It's a divorce summons from Mrs. Brown."

Hearing this, Michael's expression turned icy.

He hung up the phone and quickly walked downstairs.

The servants at the Brown Villa hurriedly handed him his coat, and Stella took a few steps to catch up. "Dinner is about to be served. Where are you going again?"

He wasn't there for Aiden's birthday banquet yesterday, and now he was leaving again. The family would surely be displeased with him.

Did he still want to be the heir of the Brown Family?

Michael didn't look back. "I have something urgent!"

Behind him, Stella stomped her feet in anger!

Michael drove back to his marital home and saw the name of the opposing lawyer on the summons. His eyes narrowed dangerously.

Ryan Martin, a renowned lawyer with an undefeated record, working for the top financial group, Global Financial Solutions.

It was said he only handled commercial cases and never dealt with divorces.

Michael thought, 'Why did he make an exception for Isabella's divorce case? Do they know each other beforehand? Or is he one of the people Isabella mentioned, anyone but him?'

The servant didn't dare look at Michael's face. After handing him the summons, they quickly retreated.

Michael stood alone in front of the floor-to-ceiling window in the living room, his tall and imposing figure as if wrapped in frost.

After a long while, Michael let out a cold laugh.

Then, he took out his phone and called Isabella.

He found that both his calls and WhatsApp messages were blocked.

Michael laughed coldly, his fingers gripping the phone so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

He thought, 'Fine! Isabella, you're serious about this!'

He took a deep breath and called Ryan.

On the other end, Ryan looked at the flashing phone screen and then at Thomas, who was half-hidden in the shadows across the desk. "Michael is calling."

Thomas reached out. "Give me the phone."

Ryan handed the phone over, and as soon as Thomas answered, Michael's cold, angry voice came through. "Where is Isabella? Divorce? Fine! Let her tell me herself!"

"Isabella doesn't want to see you. Mr. Brown, it would be wise to sign the divorce papers. After all, you were once married. Taking it to court won't be good for either of you."

Michael laughed. In all of Evergreen City, no one dared to sue him! "You better advise her to think it through, or else..."

Thomas's voice turned cold. "Michael, don't think Isabella has no one to back her up."

"If you want to play threats, go ahead and try!"
