Chapter 341
Layla stared in astonishment at Samuel vigorously eating dishes while wearing a shirt worth tens of thousands dollars. 'Is it really that delicious? This is just a regular small diner!' She thought.
Samuel remained silent, feeling the spiciness becoming unbearable. He paused to take a sip of water before continuing.
Unable to bear it, Samuel coughed lightly, his face his face reddening as sweat appeared on his forehead.
"What are you doing? If you can't handle spicy food, then don't eat it," Layla advised him. "I can handle it, so it's fine for me."
"Can pregnant women eat spicy food? Are you out of your mind?" Samuel retorted, blushing. He tried hard to control his breathing, his face turning even redder.
"So, just to prevent me from eating spicy food, are you planning to finish the food yourself?" Layla questioned.
Samuel took another sip of water, finding it even harder to breathe now. "You said not to waste food."
"Then why didn't you believe me when I said I was not jealous?" Layla sighed, feeling a bit sorry, reaching out to take the fork from his hand as he was about to eat more. "Stop eating. I won't eat anymore, okay?"
"Okay."
Samuel immediately put down the food, amusing Layla with his exaggerated actions. "Fool."
Samuel, seemingly unattainable like a king, unexpectedly resorted to such a foolish method to prevent her from eating spicy food, leaving her speechless. If he ate all these dishes alone, she thought he would end up in the emergency room tonight.
After drinking several cups of water, Samuel finally began to feel better.
When they finished dinner, it was only 8 p.m.. Layla received a message from the company group chat stating that there was an important announcement tomorrow and everyone had to be there at 8 a.m. She put away her phone. "Let's go back. I have to go to work an hour earlier tomorrow."
"Okay." Samuel stood up and naturally draped his suit over her. "It's the most comfortable to lie in bed in winter."
Layla quickly pushed him away. "I mean I'm sleeping alone."
"It's very cold today. You need someone to warm you."
"No, a hot bath works better."
"A hot bath only warms your body. A man can warm your heart." Samuel gave a reasonable explanation. "Body temperature is the ideal temperature."
"Why?"
"Because that's the temperature of my embrace."
His words left Layla momentarily speechless.
"You should stick to your CEO demeanor. Romantic words don't suit you."
Samuel was full of confidence. He believed that his words were the the epitome of romance. Layla was left at a loss for words again.
They turned a corner and arrived at the apartment building.
"I'm leaving." Layla was straightforward.
"My stomach hurts." Samuel looked at her pitifully.
Layla remained composed, showing no sign of pity. Instead, she looked at him amusingly. "Samuel, are you pretending to be sick instead of drunk?"
"It really hurts. My stomach is burning. You know my stomach is sensitive," Samuel said with a strained voice, his lips slightly pale.
Layla knew he was putting on a show.
Samuel had powered through 48-hour work stretches despite stomach issues before, but things were different now. Even a slight pain became a chance to earn her sympathy. He couldn't miss such a good opportunity.
Men could act childishly in front of the ones they love!Layla looked at him and hesitated for a moment under his gaze. "Is it true?"
"I did eat most of it."
"You insisted on eating it."
"Only because I wanted you to have less," Samuel muttered, looking pitiful.
"Let me rest upstairs, okay?"
Layla knew that once he was upstairs, it would be hard to get rid of him.
Yet, without quite understanding why, she let him go up.
"Hey, why are you going to the room? Rest in the living room," she shouted, but he didn't respond.
When she entered the room, he was already lying on the bed as if he was the owner of the house, his long legs extending past the edge.
"I'm feeling unwell. I need a soft bed," Samuel said, folding his hands in front of him like he urgently needed care.
"Take your medicine and get out quickly."
Layla brought a small box containing all kinds of medications.
"Get up and take your medicine," she repeated. Samuel lay still, only opening his mouth to be fed.
Resisting the urge to kick him, Layla stuffed the pills into his mouth.
"Water."
She helped him with some water.
"You act like you're in so much pain. I thought you were paralyzed," Layla grumbled.
"Even if I were, you'd have to take care of me for the rest of your life," Samuel said happily.
"Nobody's taking care of you. Once I get your property, I'll push you off a cliff."
"You're so cruel."
Layla snorted, putting on a fierce expression. "Yes, I am a cruel woman."
"Then let's get a marriage license first. You can only get my property after we get married."
"Oh my, you took the wrong medicine!" Layla suddenly slapped her forehead and shouted.
"Are you serious?"
"No, I gave you cold medicine instead of stomach medicine," Layla said, trying not to laugh out loud.
"Are you doing this on purpose? Trying to murder your future husband?"
"I didn't mean to. I just accidentally grabbed the wrong one. It's just cold medicine, not poison. Eating it won't kill you. Here, take the stomach medicine now," Layla said, trying to hold back her laughter.
"You're still laughing. You nearly killed me," Samuel said speechlessly, his tone indulgent.
He was willing to give his life to her, let alone take the wrong medicine.
"Even if it were poison, I'd take it just because it's from you," Samuel said.
"Did those two cold pills make you go crazy?" Layla couldn't help but smile.
"No, I got crazy for you." Samuel, who had been lying in bed suddenly sat up, gently pinching Layla's chin. His handsome face drew closer, and he pressed his lips to hers.
The kiss was gentle, like a soft breeze rippling across a lake, stirring something deep in Layla's heart.
Samuel had a way of making everything wonderfully surreal and irresistibly tempting.
Layla's soul felt like it was melting into his kiss.
