"Woman's obsession?"

Samuel humbly asked, "What do you mean?"

"It means that we are particularly persistent about things we want to eat. Before we get to eat them, we won't give up. We will keep thinking about it. The more you try to stop me from eating, the more I want it. Anyway, in the end, you will agree. So, we will eat it sooner or later. It's not that easy to get fat," Layla explained confidently.

Samuel couldn't help but chuckle, "Why don't you have such a deep obsession for me?"

"Because you're not something to eat."

Samuel reminded her, "But you just 'ate' me. Don't you remember?"

Layla hurriedly clarified, "You were the one who made the first move."

"But you still 'ate' me."

Layla gritted her teeth in frustration. "You're so shameless."

"I want to eat sushi!" Layla repeated like a broken record.

"Then kiss me."

"I can order it myself. I don't need to beg you." Layla reached for her phone, but Samuel took it away first.

Samuel held the phone up with his long arm. "Beg me, and you'll have sushi to eat."

"Don't be too out of line. I'll punch you. Believe me." Layla raised her fist. "I won't beg you. Just give me back my phone quickly."

"You did beg just now."

"Begging for mercy doesn't count."

Samuel raised an eyebrow, teasing with a hint of ambiguity. "You know I'm not talking about begging for mercy."

Layla's face turned as red as a tomato in an instant. "Shameless! If you won't let me eat, that's fine."

Layla turned away, facing away from Samuel, and took the blanket with her, huffing.

"Are you angry?"

"Really angry?"

"Who's angry with you? I can't be bothered to be angry with you. Don't touch me. It's annoying." Layla shrugged off Samuel's hand on her shoulder, muttering to herself, "Saying things like treating me like a treasure, not even letting me eat sushi. Stingy. After making love, you act like you don't know me. Heartless! Bad man."

Samuel listened to Layla's rambling, finding it amusing, and reached out to hug Layl., "I'm just teasing you. Don't be angry. Here's your phone back."

"No! I'll starve." Layla closed her eyes in annoyance.

"Then I'll kiss you. I'll treat you to sushi." Samuel planted a kiss on Layla's cheek.

"I told you not to touch me. Now I have your saliva on me." Layla pushed Samuel away disdainfully.

"We kissed many times, and you're still bothered by my saliva."

Layla, annoyed, grabbed a pillow and threw it at Samuel.

But half an hour later, when the sushi arrived, the woman who had been angry a moment ago completely changed her expression. She happily ate the sushi, her face beaming with joy.

"Not angry anymore?"

Apparently, there's nothing a good meal can't solve.

Layla smiled, "Didn't I say I wasn't angry with you?" She was so happy "The sushi is so delicious. I love it."

Samuel handed her a tissue to wipe her mouth. "Look at you. Your face is all messy. Let me feed you."

"No, food fed by others has no soul."

"You're full of grand theories," Samuel said, smiling. "During pregnancy, you can only eat sushi once a month, right?"

"I got it," Layla replied with a mouthful, secretly thinking that if she didn't eat sushi, she could still have cake or other delicious things, and that wouldn't be breaking the rules.

The next day, Layla entered the office and immediately received various calculating looks.

The air was filled with the usual scent of conspiracy.

Working here felt like being in a palace intrigue. Traps were everywhere, making Layla tired, but she didn't show a hint of fear or fatigue, which would only fuel the enemy's arrogance.

Layla calmly put down her bag.

"Ms. Taylor wants you in her office," Cassandra said with a malicious smile.

Layla walked over to knock on the door.

Inside, a woman in her forties, dressed in designer clothes but with a very unrefined demeanor, sat on the sofa. She was overweight, with a face full of flesh, and clearly bad-tempered.

"Layla is here," Fanny greeted warmly, but Layla caught a glimpse of the cold smile in her eyes.

"Ms. Claire, this is our company's top designer, Layla." Fanny enthusiastically tried to push Layla forward, but Layla avoided her hand.

Fanny's smile froze for a moment, but she continued to introduce enthusiastically. "Layla, this is our major client, Ava Claire. She's here today to find someone to help her design a bar."

Ava scrutinized Layla with a critical and jealous look. "A little girl, can she really be a designer? Fanny, are you joking with me?"

"Ms. Claire, how dare I joke with you. Don't be fooled by Layla's youth. She's a top graduate from City University, and she previously worked at the Holland Group. I spent a lot of money to bring her here," Fanny defended.

"The Holland Group? Don't try to deceive me." Ava was skeptical.

"How could I dare? She really was from the Holland Group, and she's highly valued in our company. You're our major client, so naturally, I recommend the best designer to you. Do you doubt my judgment?" Fanny replied.

There's a conspiracy.

Layla knew it.

'Was Fanny trying to set her up?' she thought.

Layla had some vague guesses in her mind, but she wasn't sure what trick Fanny was planning to use.

"Why are you standing there like a log? Come here!" Ava ordered.

Layla took a step forward, and Ava scrutinized her from head to toe. "Did she get all her previous projects just by relying on this pretty face?"

"Of course not. You just saw her designs. Didn't you like them?" Fanny's smile concealed a plot.

"Who knows if she had someone help her!"

"Whether she has real skills, you'll find out when you try. You won't lose out."

After Fanny said something pleasing to ears and praised Layla, Ava finally relented. "Then let's give it a try."

She warned Layla, "You better have real skills. I'm not as easily fooled as those men."

As Layla escorted Ava out, Ava stared coldly at her in the elevator and meaningfully said, "Remember, stay in your lane."

Layla felt uncomfortable at her words, furrowing her brows. She had a feeling that things were going to be more troublesome than she thought.

Back in the office, Fanny resumed her usual unfriendly attitude toward Layla, commanding her arrogantly, "Be at Ava Claire's bar at seven tonight. Don't be late."

"What are you up to this time?" Layla asked.

"What's with your attitude, Layla? It's normal for a superior to assign tasks to subordinates. Are you scared? Don't you want your salary? If you close this deal, I'll give you two months' salary."

Layla felt annoyed. "Do you think I'll believe your words?"

"Believe it or not, it's up to you. I've given you the opportunity. Whether you can close the deal or not depends on your abilities." Fanny was excited, thinking that Layla definitely didn't have that ability and that she would be tormented by Ava, that rude and rough older woman.

She was using Ava to suppress Layla.

Fanny was looking forward to the show!
