"Isn't there anyone else?" Layla quickly interjected.

"He is the waiter for this table, why would I look for someone else?" Samuel retorted.

Layla had no words in response. Although she wanted to help Louis, she also understood that there was no fairness in this situation.

Samuel deliberately creates difficulties, but his reasons are flawless.

The Rose Garden has a system where a waiter serves a table of guests. During employee training, it is specifically emphasized that waiters should not leave the table unattended, and this is reiterated by the supervisor in every meeting.

Louis shouldn't have approached her just now. He was concerned about her, but she ended up causing trouble for him.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Holland. I'm resigning now." Louis held back tears as he turned and walked away.

"Louis..." Layla felt even more guilty. Louis came from a poor background, just like her, working and studying at the same time. Losing this job would make it hard for him to find another with such high pay.

Sharing the same circumstances, Layla felt even more sympathetic towards him.

She was angry at the domineering and heartless man across from her, but she was also angry at herself for being unable to help.

They finished in the restaurant and walked out of the restaurant.

"Where are you going?" Samuel grabbed hold of Layla.

"I'll take the bus back to school by myself, I won't bother you." Layla, with her back turned towards him, spoke coldly and didn't even want to look at him.

"Are you throwing a tantrum?"

Layla turned her head, smiled ironically, and said, "How can I dare to throw a tantrum with Mr. Holland? I'm just afraid of saying or doing something wrong that would displease you and get myself fired. Oh no, I'm not your subordinate, you don't have the power to fire me." She forcefully pulled her hand out of his grip.

Samuel furrowed his brows and sneered, "You're so angry, is he one of your boyfriends then?"

So, by secretly chatting with him for a while, she feels ecstatic and incredibly beautiful? Have the two of them done something indecent in that corner? Kissing and hugging, perhaps?

A fire burned in Samuel's heart, but he never thought of it as jealousy. He only saw Layla as his possession and wouldn't allow another man to touch her.

Layla burst out laughing at his anger. "I've said before that we are not meant to be in the same world, even being friends isn't feasible. Now it's proven that I was right. You don't even know what it means to be a friend."

In his eyes, a man and a woman can only have that kind of relationship, and he made it sound dirty.

Mr. Morris said he was lonely, and that's what he deserves. Who would want to be friends with a person like him?

"You know that I have the power to dismiss an incompetent employee." Samuel frowned. If it were an employee of the Holland Group today, he would do the same.

"But you also know that you're venting your anger on Louis because of me." Layla retaliated, "You only know how to vent, you don't consider how much he needs this job, it's unfair to him."

Fair? Samuel couldn't help but laugh coldly.

Has anyone ever been fair to him? His family, or fate?

Over a decade ago, at the mere age of 13, he was at his wit's end, working night shifts on an assembly line. He was dismissed by a supervisor for a minuscule, even insignificant mistake that wasn't even his own fault.

When he protested against the injustice, the supervisor replied, "You want to talk about fairness with me? Wait until you sit in my position."

This sentence, he would remember for the rest of his life.

"Never mind." he said.

At that moment, he realized that there was no fairness in the world. The fate of the weak was always controlled by the strong. If one desired fairness, they had to rise to the top and trample everyone beneath their feet.

Later, when he acquired that factory, his first action was to dismiss that supervisor. Sitting in his Rolls-Royce, he coldly watched the supervisor kneel outside the car door, begging him. It was then that he realized how satisfying revenge and cruelty could be.

He vowed never to be merciful!

"I have never been treated justly, so why should I be fair to others?" Samuel asked in return, and a cruel sneer emerged on his face. "I merely treat others the way fate has treated me. What's wrong with that?"

"Not everyone is born with a silver spoon in their mouth."

"Don't pretend to know me. You know nothing about me." Samuel said disdainfully. The suffering he endured was not something that everyone could withstand. Some people might have committed suicide long ago.

"I might not understand, but at least I know that being kind is important."

"What's the value of kindness? It's just a synonym for hypocrisy and cowardice."

Layla could no longer continue the conversation. She shook her head and said, "We are not from the same world."

No longer wanting to debate with him, she turned and walked away.

"Stop!" Samuel commanded.

Layla didn't stop for a moment, instead, she walked even faster, despite her heels bleeding from the blisters and her shoes.

Samuel strode forward and scooped her up horizontally in his arms.

"What are you doing? Put me down. Are you a barbarian? Bastard!" Layla angrily kicked her legs, punched his chest, and bit his shoulders. Her teeth were on the verge of breaking, she bit so hard.

While carrying her, Samuel walked briskly towards the car, using one hand to remove her high heels and throw them into the trash bin.

"My shoes! Why did you throw away what I was wearing?" Layla was stuffed into the car, anxiously shouting.

She desperately tried to get out of the car from the other side, but the door was locked.

"Open the door." she yelled at Mr. Vandella in the driver's seat.

"Drive." Samuel said indifferently. Compared to her frustrated state, he remained elegant and arrogant. The one in control of everything always appeared calm. She couldn't win against him at all!

Layla was raging, on the verge of spitting blood, "I told you to stop the car, didn't you hear me? I don't want to ride in a car with someone who hurt my friend. What gives you the right to throw my shoes away? What gives you the right to force me into the car? Are you a tyrant? Does controlling others make you happy?"

This wasn't the first time Samuel had heard the term "tyrant." He didn't mind her calling him that. A tyrant symbolized power, and which man didn't like power?

"I have no interest in controlling others." Samuel said coldly. She was just too disobedient, and he could only make her submit through force.

So, she was just unlucky? Layla sneered, knowing that resistance was useless now. Hadn't she already suffered enough from this kind of loss before? She squeezed into a corner, no longer saying a word to him.

The lights outside the window flickered in her eyes.

She thought about her friend, her eyes were filled with a profound look.

"If he loses this job and can't find another one, it only shows his incompetence." Samuel's cold, stern voice echoed in the carriage. Layla couldn't help but roll her eyes.

Being so wealthy, he could never understand the hardships of the lower class. In his eyes, everything was too simple, as he didn't have to worry about making ends meet.

A mocking smile formed at the corner of Layla's mouth, "Louis won't go looking for such a 'good' job like yours."

Samuel furrowed his brows. What a sharp-tongued girl!

Half an hour later, the car arrived at Hillside Manor. Samuel got out of the car first, then turned his head to see Mr. Vandella opening the door, but Layla refused to get out of the car. She stubbornly crossed her arms and glared ahead, with no intention of getting out.

Mr. Morris sensed that something was off. Was Miss Adkins throwing another fit with Sir, causing this gloomy expression on his face?

"Do you plan on staying in the car overnight?" Samuel asked with a cold voice, not bothering to sugarcoat his words.
