Chloe Valentine glanced at her wristwatch.
A smug smile touched her lips.
The timing was perfect.
She reached for Adrian Sinclair's hand.
Turning to the old man, she offered a sweet smile.
"Grandpa, it's getting late. I should head back. I'll visit again soon."
Adrian looked down at her hand.
He withdrew his own without a word.
The old man beamed, his expression kindly.
"Good, good. I'm just happy you care." He smiled at his grandson. "Adrian, see Chloe home."
Adrian gave a slight nod.
He rose and led her out of the manor.
The car was unusually quiet.
Chloe's uncharacteristic silence was a relief.
They passed the Marriott Hotel.
Chloe spoke up suddenly.
"Adrian, Executive Assistant Ross came here to deliver documents. Let's go check."
"Unnecessary." Adrian didn't slow down.
Chloe tightened her grip on the seatbelt.
"Please, let's check. That client has a bad reputation. I'm worried she might be in trouble."
Adrian frowned.
He hit the brakes.
Chloe hid her delight.
She pushed the door open and hurried toward Room 8808.
The door was slightly ajar.
The room was a disaster.
Chloe felt a chill.
This was more extreme than she had planned.
Was Anna Ross even alive?
A sinister smile curled her lips.
She deliberately pulled Adrian inside.
A heavyset man emerged from the bathroom, cursing.
Seeing Chloe, his anger flared.
He snorted and collapsed onto the sofa.
Chloe's heart sank.
Something was wrong.
She frowned.
"Mr. Klein, where is the girl who delivered the documents?"
Why was he alone?
And why was he bruised and battered?
This wasn't right!
The man was even more furious.
"What a disgrace! Your company's people have no shame!"
Adrian's eyes turned icy.
He strode forward and grabbed the man's collar.
His jaw clenched.
"Where is the person who delivered the documents? What did you do to her?"
The man was intimidated by his presence.
He froze in fear.
His eyes flicked toward Chloe.
Suddenly, he found his courage.
"Mr. Sinclair, how would I dare touch your employee? You should ask what your people did!"
"What do you mean?" Adrian's voice was cold as steel.
His gaze was sharp.
"What do I mean?" The man pointed at his face.
"Your employee tried to seduce me, then had someone beat me up! I should be asking you!"
Seduce?
A vein throbbed at Adrian's temple.
He tightened his grip.
"Where is she?"
The man choked, gasping for air.
He frantically slapped at Adrian's hand.
"I... cough... I don't know..."
"Adrian!" Chloe called out fearfully.
She wanted to stop him but didn't dare.
Adrian released him with a shove.
He issued a sharp warning.
"You'd better hope she's unharmed."
He turned and rushed out of the room.
He ignored Chloe behind him.
Chloe glared at the man on the floor.
"Useless," she muttered.
She hurried after Adrian.
Adrian walked quickly, dialing his phone.
In his anxiety, a faint sound caught his attention.
He frowned at the door.
He raised his hand and knocked.
