Adrian Sinclair stood at the doorway, his expression dark.
He shoved Lucas Evans aside and charged into the room.
A figure was curled up on the sofa.
Anna Ross was startled and looked up.
Her face was deathly pale, devoid of any color.
Only her left cheek was swollen and red, a stark and painful contrast.
Adrian's heart clenched violently.
It felt like something sharp had pierced through it, the pain leaving him speechless.
Lucas stepped in front of him, his voice icy. "How dare you show your face here?"
His gaze was like a knife, cutting into Adrian. "Look what you've done! Why did you have to make her deliver the files?"
His fists were clenched so tight his knuckles turned white. "If I hadn't arrived just in time, she would have been finished!"
Adrian withdrew his gaze, his eyes cold. "My affairs are none of your concern."
"Adrian Sinclair!" Lucas roared, a vein throbbing at his temple.
He almost threw a punch, but a glance at Anna made him force himself to hold back.
Chloe Valentine rushed in, flustered.
Seeing the scene inside, she covered her mouth in shock. "Oh my god, what happened?"
Lucas sneered. "What happened? Don't you know best? Stop pretending to be innocent."
His eyes swept over them both, full of contempt.
Chloe trembled as she looked at Adrian, meeting his scrutinizing gaze.
She quickly lowered her head and hurried over to Anna.
Taking in Anna's disheveled state, Chloe inwardly cursed her for being useless.
She forced a concerned expression and reached out to pull Anna up. "Anna, I'm so sorry, I truly had no idea the client would be like this…"
Anna shifted away from her touch, remaining silent.
The truth was something this person knew all too well.
Chloe gritted her teeth, feeling that Anna was deliberately embarrassing her.
To maintain her image, she lowered her eyes, her voice choked. "If I had known this would happen, I would have come myself…"
Anna closed her eyes, pulling the coat tighter around herself.
Chloe suddenly grabbed Anna's hand and tried to bring it to her own face. "If you're angry, just hit me, I…"
"Enough!" Adrian cut in sharply.
Chloe flinched, freezing in place.
Adrian stepped forward.
Lucas immediately blocked him. "You think you can take her away? Absolutely not!"
He shielded Anna, his voice resolute. "I won't give you another chance to hurt her!"
His eyes burned with anger. "I used to think you were just cold, but I never imagined you could be this disgusting! For the sake of some lousy deal, you let her suffer like this. Are you even human?"
Adrian's face turned ashen, his eyes bloodshot.
He suddenly threw a punch, landing it hard on Lucas's face. "Her matters are none of your concern!"
Anna jumped up in alarm, rushing to steady the staggering Lucas.
The coat slipped off in the chaos.
Adrian's pupils constricted violently.
Her dress was torn, the fabric at her shoulder unable to hide the dark, bruised fingerprints.
