Adrian Sinclair set down his wine glass.
He watched her through narrowed eyes.

His voice was low. "He demanded I fire you."
"I refused."

Anna Ross's heart trembled.

Did he despise her that much?
She had done nothing wrong.

Anna gripped her fork and knife tightly.
She lifted her glass and took a large gulp.
She choked from drinking too fast.
Violent coughs brought tears to her eyes.

He passed her a napkin.

Anna kept her head down, eating.
She was only at the company to earn money.

"Why should I leave the company?"

"I can't drink anymore."

Two flushed spots on her cheeks resembled red apples.
He wanted to take a bite.

The next second, he picked up his glass and walked around the table.
"You know?"
"The way you look right now makes people want to tease you."
Adrian's large hand caressed her cheek.
His thumb gently stroked her skin.
Though dizzy, Anna heard his words clearly.
Her heart felt like it was lifted by the wind.

She looked up at him.

He took a sip of red wine before leaning down.
One hand cupped her chin.
His lips covered hers.

Anna was forced to tilt her head back.

She was forced to swallow the wine he poured into her mouth.

His gaze dropped to the red trickle at the corner of her mouth.
He reached out to wipe it away.
