Chapter 34
Adrian Sinclair released his grip and sat back in the chair.
The hospital room fell into silence.
The nutrient solution dripped away, drop by drop.
Anna Ross stared blankly at the IV tube.
The medicine bottle was soon empty.
Adrian pressed the call button.
A nurse hurried in.
He stepped back toward the window to give her space.
The nurse deftly removed the needle.
Anna hissed softly and pressed down on the cotton swab.
"Remember to eat on time." The nurse gathered her equipment. "You might not be so lucky next time."
Anna looked down and murmured an agreement.
The nurse glanced at Adrian before leaving with her tray.
Anna pushed herself up and slipped on her shoes.
Some color had returned to her cheeks after the IV.
But a dizzy weakness remained.
Adrian watched coldly as she swayed unsteadily.
"The medical fees will be deducted from your salary." His voice was icy. "Remember to eat if you don't want to lose money."
Anna's head snapped up.
"You called at six! I had fifteen minutes to get to the company!" She trembled with anger. "When was I supposed to eat?"
The intense emotion made her vision swim.
Adrian turned his head away, silent.
Anna gripped the sheets, trying to steady her breathing.
The thought of her savings being deducted made her bite her lip. "This counts as a work-related injury. You should pay."
Adrian stepped closer.
His shadow fell over her.
"Does the money from selling luxury goods not cover it?" He sneered. "Stop pretending to be poor."
Her heart ached, but she only said quietly, "I'm not feeling well. I need to take leave."
"Low blood sugar won't kill you." Adrian turned away. "Get back to work."
Anna laughed bitterly.
So in his eyes, as long as she wasn't dead, she had to work.
Tormenting her was his only goal.
"Adrian Sinclair." Her voice shook. "Do you hate me that much?"
Enough to destroy everything she had.
Enough to only be satisfied seeing her suffer.
Adrian's back stiffened.
His fingers clenched at his sides.
"Yes." His voice was like frozen steel. "You deserve it."
The door slammed shut behind him.
Anna slowly curled into herself.
