Anna Ross leaned against the railing, her gaze sweeping over the bustling crowd below.
"A man like him must never lack for admirers."
Noah Watson turned and leaned back against the railing, shaking his head.
"Don't be fooled by Mr. Sinclair's commanding presence now. When he first joined the company, no one respected him."
He pointed downward.
"Everyone said he was parachuted in thanks to the Chairman's connections. Some even tried to force him out together."
Anna stiffened slightly, her fingers tightening unconsciously.
Noah continued, "Later, he went abroad alone and secured that nearly impossible deal. Only then did the old guard finally fall silent."
"After that, he steadily strengthened the business. No one dared say another word against him."
Anna looked down.
That sounded exactly like him—crushing all doubts with undeniable results.
Her phone suddenly vibrated in the distance.
Seeing the name on the screen, she nearly dropped it.
Noah glanced over. "Is something wrong?"
She shook her head. "It's nothing. I need to take this."
The ringing persisted stubbornly, as if it would never end.
She walked a few steps away, lowering her voice. "What is it?"
Adrian Sinclair's voice came through the receiver, laced with fatigue. "Where are you?"
The sound hit her eardrums, and a sudden ache tightened her chest.
"Handling personal matters. Does Mr. Sinclair need to oversee that too?"
Even she could hear the sharpness in her own words.
Adrian rubbed his temples. "Bring me some documents."
His computer screen glowed as he added, "The files for the new hires. I need them now."
Anna gripped her phone, finally yielding. "Understood."
His voice pressed. "Did you hear me?"
She gave a quiet affirmation, hanging up before hurriedly saying goodbye to Noah.
In front of the HR Department filing cabinets, she quickly assembled a thick stack of documents.
The printer hummed, the pages still warm to the touch.
From the second floor to the fourth, the elevator's ascent made her dizzy.
There was a time when she had run this route countless times a day.
Before she could knock, a voice from inside called, "Come in."
Pushing the door open, she found Adrian resting on the sofa with his eyes closed.
Hearing the movement, he slowly opened them.
Anna avoided his gaze, placing the documents on the edge of his desk.
She turned to leave.
"Wait." His voice was calm but firm.
She halted, her knuckles turning white.
"What else do you require, Mr. Sinclair?"
