"I need to buy medicine," she murmured to herself, glancing back at the figure in the bed.

It seemed like the first time she had ever seen him sick. He rarely fell ill before. Had his health deteriorated because he was too busy now?

She shook her head, dismissing the thought. She grabbed a thick coat and threw it on, preparing to head out.

Just as Anna Ross's hand touched the doorknob, the doorbell rang.

Who could it be at this hour?

She opened the door. Mark Anderson stood outside, grinning.

"Well, hello there, beautiful!" His eyes lit up, his voice rising.

His playful, cheeky demeanor made Anna uncomfortable. But since he was Adrian Sinclair's friend, she nodded politely.

Mark peered into the room. "Mind if I come in?"

Anna stepped aside. "Mr. Sinclair has a cold. He's still resting."

"What? He's sick!?" Mark's overly pale face scrunched up in surprise. His eyes widened as if he'd heard shocking news.

Anna gave a quiet affirmation. "I need to go buy medicine. Excuse me."

They were here for a project. If Adrian couldn't participate because of her, he would surely resent her even more.

She didn't want to owe him anything. She especially didn't want him to dislike her.

Mark raised an eyebrow and clicked his tongue. "Ah, when will a pretty girl ever worry about me like that?"

He strode into the room, heading straight for Adrian's bedroom. Seeing the man in bed, he shook his head repeatedly.

"Mr. Sinclair, how did you catch a cold so quickly?" He sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the man.

Adrian tugged the blanket higher. His eyes remained closed. His voice was low. "Why are you here?"

"Business. Can't I visit?" Mark studied Adrian's impossibly handsome face, baffled that such cold words came from him.

But he was more curious about something else.

Leaning in like a gossiping busybody, Mark asked, "Come on, tell me. What's your relationship with that pretty girl? You like her, don't you?"

If it wasn't liking her, he couldn't understand Adrian's genuine, heartfelt concern!

Adrian gave a soft, dismissive snort. "If you still want my help, stop asking pointless questions."

Mark brushed off the threat. He scoffed. "I told you, if she's not yours, I'm making a move."

She was so beautiful. If he didn't like her, plenty of others would.

Adrian finally opened his eyes. His gaze was dark, smoldering like hidden flames.

Mark continued chattering. "I'm serious. Give me a straight answer."

Displeasure flickered in Adrian's eyes. His voice turned cold and heavy. "You're not her type."
